Phishing warning from Sheriff's Office

Garland County Sheriff Larry Sanders asked that citizens remain vigilant about not giving personal information out over the phone, text messages or in person, to anyone that you are not familiar with or know to be a legitimate business person.

We have received information, through our Prosecuting Attorney's office, that there may be a text message "Phishing" scheme targeting Verizon customers.

The PA office was contacted by two individuals from Jonesboro saying that they had received text messages, from what appears to be a New York based Verizon phone, stating, "LibertyBankofArkansas SCFS alert 753312. Please call 501-624-2377." This number appears to be a Hot Springs number, but we have not been able to confirm that, as the number appears to go to a fax machine.

Neither one called the number, but they did call Liberty Bank (where they have their accounts) and were told they believed the text went out to a large group of Verizon cell phone customers.

Although the information we received doesn't say, it appears that the message received was not a valid message from Liberty Bank.
