Heifer Village hosts “Spring Fling” for families

This Saturday, March 17, explore a different kind of green with your family at Heifer Village’s Spring Fling! Winter is over, and families can enjoy a variety of special spring activities at the Murphy Keller Education Center (Heifer Village) in downtown Little Rock. Have some fun while finding out how Heifer International transforms lives “one family at a time.”

Take photos with our animal guests from Heifer Ranch such as sheep and chickens, and learn how livestock can change the lives of farmers in need. Explore the education garden and the five elements of compost, and learn how you can create rich soil in your own backyard using everyday discarded materials like paper, food scraps and leaves.

Kids can make springtime discoveries with the Wetland Scavenger Hunt and other interactive games. Visitors can also learn about a simple technology used in the developing world to stop erosion, called an A-Frame. And participants will get to see a bee hive and try on beekeeping suits while learning about the benefits of bees in the garden and creating pollination mobiles to take home.

Throughout the week, visitors will be able to participate in various games and crafts, including a matching game about compost, a pollination mobile craft, and the dream garden collage. Children who are free for spring break can find different activity every day of the week from March 19-23.

Those wanting more information can contact Heifer Village at 501-907-COWS (2697).

About Heifer Village

Heifer Village, a key component of Heifer International’s education programming, introduces visitors to the possibility of a world free of hunger and poverty. After experiencing the root causes of hunger and poverty as well as some real solutions, visitors learn about individual actions they can take in their own communities, resources they can utilize to learn more about specific topics and groups they can join that are already engaged.
