Airport hosts monthly art exhibit

Margaret Hoffman’s “Purple Lace” is a watercolor painting on Yupo. Yupo is a sheet of plastic which artists have found challenging to work with.

The public is invited to an art exhibit opening reception from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 17 at Hot Springs Memorial Field, 525 Airport Road.  Margaret Hoffman will be exhibiting her artwork.

Hoffman began her art studies after retiring from teaching business education classes at a community college and high school in Colorado.  She enrolled in classes at the Brenham, Texas, Fine Arts Center in 1999.  Starting in oils, she moved on to watercolor and pastels. She is  currently working with graphite.  Hoffman holds a graphite workshop called Shades of Value, teaching watercolor and acrylic. She stated, “I have always wanted my art to show realism, but recently included abstract to my collection.  My paintings depict a place I’ve visited that was recorded with a photo. Knowing locations make my paintings more personal.”

As president and workshop chair of Brush Strokes, an art club in Hot Springs Village, Hoffman arranged for many local and nationally-known instructors to teach workshops.  During her three-year tenure, Brush Strokes grew into an organization exceeding 120 members.

Hoffman is currently Garland County Library’s “Wall of Art” curator.  She maintains her membership in Brush Strokes, the Arkansas Pastel Society, MidSouthern Watercolorists and the Traditional Art Guild.

The third Saturday of every month throughout the year, the airport will host a new art exhibit by a TAG member, beginning with an opening reception. For information on TAG membership, contact Nina Louton, Traditional Art Guild president, at 620-0303.
