Final Garland County free rabies vaccination clinic set

The last in a series of free rabies vaccination clinics for dogs and cats, minimum four months old, in Garland County has been set for Saturday, July 14 in the livestock area at the Garland County Fairgrounds, 4831 Malvern Avenue.  The clinic will be held from 12:30 p.m. until 3 p.m.

Voluntary donations of $6 will be accepted to cover the cost of the vaccine. Pet owners must present a driver’s license or photo ID showing their home address to prove residence in Garland County before a rabies shot is administered to their pet. Rabies certificates will be issued upon vaccination.

Hot Springs Animal Services is partnering with Garland County to provide up rabies vaccinations in the interest of public health and safety. To date, a total of 927 cats and dogs have been vaccinated for rabies during three previous clinics held in other parts of the county.

The two most recent positive rabies cases have occurred in the southeast central portion of Garland County, near Malvern Avenue. Residents are reminded to report any daytime activity by nocturnal animals such as bats and skunks by calling 262-2091, and to avoid contact with them..
