The City of Hot Springs will accept applications until 5 p.m. on Friday, August
10 for a total of 21 volunteer advisory positions on various city advisory
boards, commissions and committees. Applicants must be registered voters of the
City of Hot Springs. Board and commission members are appointed by the Board of
Directors. Most groups meet in the Board Chambers at City Hall, 133 Convention
Boulevard. Applications are available online at www.cityhs.net or in
the Office of the City Clerk at City Hall. For more information, call

Two openings on the Historic
District Commission, which oversees historic district rules and regulations.
One opening may, but is not required to be, an owner of real property within the
Pleasant Street Historic District, and one opening must be filled by licensed
architect. The commission meets at 8:30 a.m. on the third Thursday of the
month.
One opening for a resident of
Board District 2 to serve on the Community Development Advisory Committee. The
committee evaluates and establishes operating policies and procedures for the
Community Development Block Grant Entitlement Program. It meets at 1 p.m. on
the first Thursday of the month.
Six openings for city residents
on the Arts Advisory Committee, whose responsibilities are to review and recommend placement of
permanent art at publicly-owned facilities in the city; to assist in the
organization and promotion of temporary art exhibits at publicly-owned
facilities; and to assist in securing private grant funding and art donations
for permanent art displays at public buildings in the city. Meetings are held on
an as-needed basis.
Two openings from city residents
on the Hot Springs/ Garland County Beautification Commission. The commission,
jointly created by the city and county governing bodies to assist in various
green initiatives and beautification efforts, meets on the third Thursday of the
month.
Two openings from city residents
on the Animal Control Advisory Committee. This committee assists the Animal Services Department in
evaluating policies and procedures including public education efforts concerning
responsible pet ownership, and meets as needed.
Eight
openings on the Construction Trades Advisory Committee. The committee consists
of nine members who review and recommend changes, revisions and modifications to
Hot Springs’ mechanical, building, electrical and plumbing codes for
consideration by the Board of Directors. The requirements are as
follows:
Position 1 – Carpenter or building contractor.
Positions 3 and 4 – Master or journeyman
plumber.
Positions 5 and 6 – Mechanical engineer, sheet metal
worker, or Class A or Class B mechanical contractor.
Positions 7 and 8 – Master or journeyman
electrician.
Position 9 – Citizen at large not meeting any of the
qualifications for positions 1 through 8.
