Town of Ola in Yell County evacuated from wildfire


The entire town of Ola in Yell County has been evacuated due to a wildfire. Ola’s population is around 1,000. Also areas of Highway 10 between Ola and Brita have also been evacuated. The evacuation started around 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

A wildfire was spotted on Ola Mountain at 10:30 Wednesday morning. As of 3:30 there were no reports of injuries or damaged structures.

The blaze is about three and a half miles southeast of Ola. The blaze spread over 100 to 110 acres. It is 50-percent contained. According to the Arkansas Forestry Commission the fire is mostly contained to the north, east and south sides.

The evacuation center is at two Rivers High School gym on Highway 28.

There is a lack of visibility on Highway 7 to the south into Perry County.

A fireworks warehouse is about a mile from the active fire.
