Beginning this month, Hot Springs residents may once again be solicited for water line
insurance by an independent company called HomeServe. HomeServe recently sent a
letter to the city, announcing its intention to send mailed solicitations for
water line service coverage. The company is not endorsed, recommended or
sponsored by the City of Hot Springs, and the insurance they offer is not
required by law.
In November 2011 and February
2012, the city issued media releases regarding HomeServe’s offer of insurance to
cover the water line between water meter and residence. Prior solicitations from
HomeServe generated local phone calls and walk-in inquiries, along with more
than 200 complaints during the past year to the area Better Business Bureau.
Those contacting the BBB have been advised to check their existing homeowner’s
insurance and to inquire about an optional rider.
