Callie Hamilton's recovery

Dr. Craig Hamilton's daughter Callie was in a diving accident recently. Dr. Hamilton is the conductor of the Hot Springs Concert Band. Here is his most recent update on Callie's recovery.

CALLIE UPDATE:

Thank you to everyone for your words of encouragement, concern and prayers for Callie and my family. We are overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support.

Callie continues to get better! She is working with physical therapists to strengthen her core and arms. They are also working to increase the flexibility in her legs, ankles and feet. She is able to sit up and is eating well.

Callie was given a nerve stimulus test yesterday, where electrodes are placed on her head and ankles and current is run through her body to determine if the nerves are sending the signals through the spinal column. During the test her feet and toes were twitching and the preliminary results were positive. They have taken her off most of her medications and we expect to have the chest tube removed tomorrow.

They are hoping to move her out of ICU into a room tomorrow. The plan is to move Callie to the Baptist Spinal Rehab Unit in Little Rock on Tuesday of next week. She will stay there for a week or so and undergo extensive physical and occupational therapy.

The most encouraging thing for me was to see her leg flex and feet move when Dr. DeCastro raked a pen up the bottom of her feet (heel to toe).
