Formerly known as the First Church of Christ Scientist, The Muses Cultural Arts Center, built in 1910, provides more than 5300 sq. ft. of space and is listed on the historic register for its classical revival style architecture. The building is tailor-made for The Muses, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to preserve the classical arts through performance and education.
The center’s elegant Grand Performance Hall, enhanced by beautiful stained glass windows and a large skylight, is the perfect venue where audience members are musically transported into the realm of sublime beauty, imagination and sensory pleasure that high quality live classical performance offers. In addition to the performance hall, the center’s office, studio, classroom, and library spaces will enable The Muses to conduct its administrative operations, offer private vocal instruction, art classes, seminars and small group workshops, and provide both private and public rehearsals as well as small receptions and private events.
The repurposing of this historic building as The Muses Cultural Arts Center makes an impressive contribution to cultural and economic development initiatives for the revitalization of downtown Hot Springs and represents the centerpiece for the cultural arts in the local community and surrounding region. According to the Greater Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce, The Muses’ “re-use” of this building as a cultural arts center will greatly “increase economic activity downtown.” From its cultural arts center, The Muses will expand the arts in Arkansas, improve the cultural opportunities for Arkansans and make the community more attractive to businesses, visitors and cultural tourists. The Muses Cultural Arts Center will be a magical reservoir of music, art, creativity, talent, encouragement, thoughts, and ideas in the heart of Hot Springs.
The Muses offers patrons an opportunity to make an investment in support of the arts and the economic revitalization of downtown Hot Springs by purchasing an opera gala patron ticket, $200, or a gala donor ticket, $100.
Those unable to attend the opera gala on September 21 but would like to attend the opera and support the arts in Hot Springs, are offered a preview performance on September 20 at a donor ticket cost of $50 which includes a $25 tax-deductible contribution. For those wishing to attend the opera only, tickets are available for $25 and for those with a student I.D., $15. Tickets can be purchased online at www.themusesproject.org or by contacting The Muses, 501-609-9811.
All proceeds from this fund raising event will help build The Muses Cultural Arts Center Capital Improvement Fund.
