Civil War Seminar at the Old State House Museum

A Civil War Seminar at the Old State House Museum, a re-enactment of a duel between Confederate generals, living history demonstrations, lectures and exhibits around the state are among the events the ACWSC has sanctioned for August 2013, ACWSC Chairman Tom Dupree announced today. Civil War sesquicentennial events during August include:

* “Fought in Earnest: Civil War Arkansas,” the Arkansas History Commission’s traveling exhibit, will be on display at the Eureka Springs Historical Museum August 4-25; call (479) 253-9417 for more information.

* Civil War Roundtable of the Delta will feature author Joe Walker speaking about President Lincoln and General Steele at the Temple Beth El in Helena-West Helena on August 8; call (870) 338-4350 or email Ronald@arkansasheritage.org for more information.

* 150th Anniversary of the Marmaduke-Walker Duel, commemorating a fatal duel between two Confederate generals, will be held August 31 at the Plantation Agriculture Museum in Scott; call (501) 961-1409 for more information.

The Arkansas Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission is housed within the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program. The AHPP is the Department of Arkansas Heritage agency responsible for identifying, evaluating, registering and preserving the state’s cultural resources. Other agencies are the Arkansas Arts Council, the Delta Cultural Center in Helena, the Old State House Museum, the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center, the Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission and the Historic Arkansas Museum.
