View a live archeological excavation at Parkin Archeological State Park

Come see an archeological dig in action!  Archeologists from the Arkansas Archeological Survey will be excavating at Parkin Archeological State Park during the first, second, and fourth weeks in April (2 through 6, 9 through 13, 23 through 27) and also from April 30 to May 4. Please note: the Park is closed on Mondays. The reason for this project is to look for part of the defensive palisade (stockade) that surrounded the Native American village in the 1500s. One corner with a possible bastion (guard house) will be the focus of the excavation. This research will enable archeologists to learn more about the feature so that it can be reconstructed accurately in the future. Please call Parkin Archeological State Park at 870-755-2500 for updates on the dig schedule.
