Pryor asks Clinton for help

U.S. Senator Mark Pryor called on Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to improve and enhance U.S. efforts to combat human trafficking.

According to the FBI, the trafficking industry generates $9 billion in annual profits worldwide, making it one of the most prolific forms of international criminal activity.  In a 2006 and 2007 report, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) laid out specific recommendations on how to improve U.S. efforts to combat human trafficking.  In the letter to Secretary Clinton, Pryor asked for an updated status and assessment of the steps the State Department has taken to implement GAO’s recommendations.  As a member of the Appropriations Committee, Pryor believes it is vital that the U.S. leverage its limited resources by identifying and supporting the most effective strategies to combat this problem.
