Hot Springs accepts applications for volunteer advisory group openings


The City of Hot Springs will accept applications until 5 p.m. on Monday, April 30 for a total of seven volunteer positions on the city advisory groups listed below.  Applicants must be registered voters of the City of Hot Springs. Board and commission members are appointed by the Board of Directors and meet in the City Hall Board Chambers, 133 Convention Boulevard.  Applications are available online at www.cityhs.net or in the Office of the City Clerk at City Hall.  For more information, call 321-6805.

         One opening on Board of Adjustments and Appeals (BAA)/Board of Zoning Adjustment (BZA). This dual committee hears appeals of enforcement and application of development codes.  It meets at 4 p.m. on the fourth Monday of each month.

         Two openings on the Historic District Commission, which oversees historic district rules and regulations.  One opening must be filled by an owner of real property within the Pleasant Street Historic District, and one opening must be filled by a licensed architect. The commission meets at 8:30 a.m. on the third Thursday of each month.

         One opening for a resident of Board District #2 to serve on the Community Development Advisory Committee. The committee evaluates and establishes operating policies and procedures for Community Development Block Grant Entitlement Program.  It meets at 1 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month.

         One opening on the Civil Service Commission, which performs various personnel-related functions related to the city's uniformed departments (fire and police), including administration of hiring and promotional testing. The five-member commission meets at 4 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month.

         Two openings on the Planning Commission, whereby one applicant must reside in Board District #1 and one in Board District #6. The commission reviews all land development proposals within the city and subdivisions outside the corporate limits to insure zoning code compliance. The commission meets at 6 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month.
