Volunteer Chair Julie Tharp display appreciation plaques for their work during
last Friday’s Arbor Day celebration at Entergy Park. More than 500 Garland
County students, teachers and parents participated in the free event, sponsored
by Deltic Timber, Entergy, Arkansas and numerous city, county and state
agencies. Students received a forestry-related workbook, a pizza lunch from
Papa John’s, and participated in a variety of hands-on educational activities.
Event
activities included Tree Climbing and Knots; Trees and Stormwater Management;
Forest Wildlife of Arkansas; Caring for Your Sapling; What Trees Mean to Me; and
Leaf Identification. The day culminated in a commemorative tree planting and a
special address by Mayor Ruth Carney.
