National Park Medical Center will host a free Sleep Health “Lunch & Learn” on Monday, September 10, beginning at 11:30 a.m. in the NPMC Fordyce Room located on the first floor of the Ouachita Professional Building at 1900 Malvern Avenue. The guest speaker will be Registered Polysomnographic Technologist and director of the NPMC Center for Sleep Disorders, Melinda Trimble. Board Certified Sleep Medicine, and Pulmonary and Critical care physician, Dr. Anupama Kaul, will also be on hand with information and to answer any questions. A light lunch will be provided by Respironics.
“Sleep is an essential part of good overall health,” says Trimble, “and sleep
disorders can lead to health risks including stroke, heart disease, depression, diabetes and obesity.” There are many types of sleep disorders, but the four most common ones are sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, insomnia and narcolepsy. Symptoms may include a feeling of constant fatigue, loud snoring, making gasping sounds while sleeping or falling asleep while doing everyday activities such as driving.
During the lunch and learn, Trimble will talk about the different types of sleep disorders, their symptoms and implications, and what treatments are available. She will also talk about the different types of sleep studies that are available.
If you recognize any of the noted symptoms in yourself or a loved one, or if you would simply like to learn more about sleep disorders and sleep studies, please join us for this event. The luncheon is free, but seating is limited and registration is required. Call 620-1402 to register for the event.
