UALR women's golf classic review

On a sunny, beautiful day in Hot Springs Village, nineteen schools gathered for a fun tournament on the links at Diamante Golf Course. This year’s annual UALR Women’s Golf Classic, played every fourth weekend in March was a huge success! All of the collegiate lady players were amazing to watch, extremely skilled golfers, and three of the ladies playing made hole in ones … congratulations to Sarah Landry from Arkansas State (hole #7, 155 yards) and Karisa Atkin from Middle Tennessee (hole #12, 138 yards) and Emily Isaacson from UMKC (hole #16,132 yards).

Each year, Diamante Country Club sponsors the UALR Women’s Golf Classic tournament and invites Villagers and guests alike to watch and cheer on these amazing ladies. The college players stay at host families for the weekend, practice Sunday, play the tournament Monday (36 holes) and finish competing on Tuesday (18 holes) to win trophies and bragging rights! The schools in attendance this year included the UALR Trojans with Head Coach Bridgett Norwood, Arkansas State Red Wolves with Head Coach M.J. Desbiens, Ball State with Head Coach Katherine Mowat, Central Arkansas Bears with Head Coach Ryke Dismuke, Eastern Michigan with Head Coach Sandy Wagner, Louisiana Monroe with Head Coach Stacy Snider, Middle Tennessee with Head Coach Chris Adams, UMKC Roos with Head Coach Brianna Broderick, Missouri State with Head Coach Kevin Kane, North Texas with Head Coach Jeff Mitchell, Northern Colorado with Head Coach Brando White, Northern Iowa Panthers with Head Coach John Bermel, Oral Roberts with Head Coach Lance Watson, Samford with Head Coach Ryan Mayberry, TAMUCC Islanders with Head Coach Carol Blackmar, UTEP with Head Coach Jere Pelletier, Troy Trojans with Head Coach Matt Terry, Tulsa with Head Coach Randy Keck, and, Wichita State with Head Coach Tom McCurdy.

During the weekend in HSV, Diamante Country Club provided dinner for the players, coaches and host families. This year, Outback Steak House sponsored a Saturday night feast as well, and Mountain Valley Spring Water hydrated the players all weekend long. Host families also provided sweet treats, nutritional fruit, sandwiches and snacks to the players. These young women golfers hope one day to become pros… what better way to journey forward than to triumph the Ouachita Mountain, highly ranked, private golf course Diamante Country Club in Hot Springs Village, AR. Special thanks to Bob Trowbridge, Ron Layne, Joyce Wood and Bridgette Norwood for planning the tournament and making the weekend exceptional for all of the talented collegiate players!
