Hot Springs receives twelfth consecutive Tree City USA award
The City of Hot Springs was recently recognized as a Tree City USA community by the Arbor Day Foundation for its commitment to urban forestry. It is the 12th consecutive year for Hot Springs to earn this national honor from the Arbor Day Foundation, the nation’s largest nonprofit organization dedicated to planting trees.
Hot Springs has met the four standards to receive Tree City USA designation. It must have a tree board or department; a tree care ordinance; a comprehensive, funded community forestry program; and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.
"Communities that are honored with a Tree City USA designation and a Growth Award make a strong commitment to planting and caring for trees, and we applaud their efforts," said John Rosenow, chief executive and founder of the Arbor Day Foundation. "We also commend Hot Springs’ elected officials, volunteers and citizens for providing needed care for its urban trees. They recognize that trees daily provide numerous environmental, economic and health benefits for the community."
The Arbor Day Foundation is a nonprofit, environmental and education organization with more than one million members. Its mission is to inspire people to plant, nurture and celebrate trees. The Tree City USA Program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service.
