Zombie alert

It seems like Zombies are popping up everywhere these days including the trails in Hot Springs Village. A Zombie 5K Run and Trail Tour is scheduled for Sat., Nov. 2. This will be an all-day affair with activities held on trails throughout the Village, and the Marketing Department is scaring up volunteers and event sponsors.

Volunteers and sponsors are critical components in any community event. Volunteers are needed to coordinate the activities, and sponsors are needed to help make the event spectacular. While details are still evolving, it’s shaping up to be a ghoulish affair.

The Hernando Trail West will host the 5K Run, a four-mile run starting at the Cortez Pavilion. The 5K Run will be managed by DLT Events of Arkadelphia, with support from and in benefit of Teen Challenge of Arkansas. Registration should begin in August.

Trail Tour tentative plans include a Geocache Walk at Cedar Creek Trail and an Audubon and Nature Tour at Magellan Beaver Dam Trail. Other proposed activities include a dog costume parade on DeSoto Spillway Trail, golf cart parade on Lake Balboa Spillway Trail and a three- or four-mile cycling tour, spearheaded by the Ageless Bikers Club, on Hernando Trail East.

Dannet Botkin, Marketing Director in Hot Springs Village, thanks the first two sponsors – Village Home Center and Sam’s Club. Village Home Center in Hot Springs Village, the presenting sponsor for the Zombie 5K and Trail Tour, invites members to attend the Grand Re-Opening to be held over Labor Day weekend, Fri., Aug. 30 through Mon., Sept. 2. There will be food, prizes, vendors and demonstrations.  The company is undergoing a renovation and expansion to include home décor, equipment rentals and extended hours. Sam’s Club in Hot Springs, a food sponsor, is coordinating a Hog for a Cause event on Sat. Aug. 3 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. This event benefits the Children’s Hospital and features a Poker Run and Bike Show filled with family-fun activities. Watch for more information as details unfold.

Mark your calendar and make plans to attend these community events. Better yet, volunteer to help or sponsor the Zombie 5K Run and Trail Tour. Please email Dannet Botkin at dbotkin@hsvpoa.org for details on how to be part of this fiendishly-fun event.
