The press conference was called to address a complaint by Mika Bono Sample.
Lib Carlyle said, “the election commission will not tolerate illegalities in the election procedure for Saline County.”
Saline County Sheriff Bruce Pennington attended the conference saying, “I am here as the Sheriff of Saline County not as a sheriff candidate. Mrs. Sample filed a complaint with the Sheriff’s Department on Tuesday, May 15, it was concerning a letter allegedly sent to at least one individual in Hot Springs Village.”
A copy of the Sheriff’s documents has been sent to several law enforcement agencies including the postal inspector with the US Postal Service.
All parties mentioned in the letter attending the conference on May 17 were allowed to make a formal statement into the record.
Sheriff Pennington said, “At the time Mrs. Sample stated she did not write or send the letter, the Sheriff’s Department opened a formal investigation. We contacted the US Postal Investigator and that department will be taking this case over. It is a federal offense.”
