Village Big Band concert tonight at Christ of the Hills

Several of your singing friends will be among those presenting "Christmas and All That Jazz," an annual performance by the Village Big Band to be held at Christ of the Hills United Methodist Church Friday night at 7:30 P.M. Joining me will be Donna Morton as one of our trombonists, Norm Morton on the keyboard bass, Jim Kelly as our lead trumpeter, Hal Thompson on the baritone sax, and our friend Lee Beach as the drummer. David Major and Maureen Morgan double as MC's and vocalists. For those unfamiliar with us, the Village Big Band is an ensemble of 17 band members plus the 2 singers. The style of the band is reminiscent of the great jazz/dance bands of the 30s-50s such as Count Basie, Benny Goodman et al. Our Friday concert will treat traditional carols in swing, rock, and jazz waltz settings. A number of secular 'pop' numbers, including 'Christmas Time is Here,' 'The Christmas Song' (Chestnuts etc), and Frosty the Snowman. will also be heard. The concert is admission free, though a free-will offering will be received to support ministries of the church.
