After last week's drawing for a $587 Million Jackpot didn’t produce a top
winner in Arkansas, the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery took stock of what this
Powerball run beginning October 4 meant to Arkansans.
First, the
prizes. Arkansas winners included the Nahlen family from Conway and Houston,
AR, claimed their $40,000 prize, and a
$10,000 as yet unidentified winner in Lonoke. Both these prizes were the same,
but the Nahlen family bought the PowerPlay, thus quadrupling their $10,000
prize.
In all,
Arkansas players didn’t come away empty-handed, winning a whopping $1,187,622 in
Powerball prizes during this Powerball run. In fact, Arkansas players have won
$37,572,228 in Powerball prizes since startup on October 31, 2009.
Powerball sales last Wednesday threatened to set retailer terminals on fire, with sales of more than
$8,000 a minute during afternoon drive time. In one day, Arkansas retailers
sold $3,306,371 in Powerball tickets, with total lottery sales for the day at
$4,374,720. The total Powerball sales for the entire run were $10,575,205. This November, Arkansas lottery sales are already $1 Million ahead of last
November with two days left to go in the month.
Students were
the biggest winners in Arkansas. Scholarship funds for November alone were
enhanced by $3.4 Million, by $1.4 Million just yesterday, and $4,335,834 for
the entire run since October 4.
The
hard-working 1900-plus lottery retailers in Arkansas earned an additional
$540,636 in profits from Powerball sales since October 4. These retailers make
the sale of lottery tickets possible and are very important partners in the
program to raise money for scholarships.
