Approximately 75 pounds of unused, expired or unneeded prescription medications have been dropped into the new 24 hour prescription drop box that Sheriff Sanders put into operation on February 3rd.
The drop box idea began two years ago, when Sheriff Sanders initiated the first Prescription Take Back event in Garland County. He made it a goal to have a 24 hour location for Garland County citizens to safely dispose of their medications. That goal had to be tabled due to logistics, lack of resources, and, most importantly, funding.
Garland County Cares stepped in with the funding to purchase, install and secure the drop box so the project was reborn and put into operation on February 3rd.
The drop box is installed in the lobby of the Garland County Sheriff's Department Detention Center and is accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Citizens can bring in their prescription pills, over-the-counter pills, vitamins and pet medications for disposal. We are not able to accept needles, thermometers, bloody or infectious waste, hydrogen peroxide, aerosol cans, inhalers or liquids.
