Have a HeART for Art

The Garland County chapter of the American Heart Association is proud to announce the FIFTH ANNUAL “Have a HeART for Art” Student & Teacher art competition and exhibition.  We are excited to invite teachers who are entering students in this year's event to participate for a $100 cash prize!  The exhibition will be held in conjunction with the downtown Gallery Walk on February 1, at 5:30 p.m.  The exhibition will be held at the Artchurch Studio at 301 Whittington Avenue.  It will be open to the public and free of charge.

The student art competition is open to all Garland County students.  Art teachers throughout the county share information about heart health with their students prior to their leading them in an art project that uses a heart motif.  The art teachers choose 2 submissions from each grade to represent their school at the Have a HeART for Art exhibit and competition.  Garland County home-schooled students may also enter the contest and exhibition.  Forms are available at the Garland County Library Children's Department. The exhibition will take place as a part of the 2013 February Gallery Walk. Entries will be judged by community educators and leaders prior to the exhibit.  The Grand Prize winner, as well as winners from each of four age divisions will be announced at the exhibit. Cash prizes and a gift certificate to New Balance will be awarded to the division winners. The public is invited to attend and there is no admission cost.  The entries will be judged in the following categories:

The Bartlett Family is proud to continue as sponsors of the “Have a HeART for Art” program in memory of their daughter Michelle Lee Bartlett.  Michelle was a 1998 graduate of Lakeside High School and a student at the University of Arkansas School of Law when she died in 2003 at the age of 23 due to a undetected heart condition.  David Bartlett, Michelle’s father, stated, "Our family is so proud of the continued growth and success of “Have a HeART for Art” in the last five years.  Our focus continues on education in order to increase prevention.  We are especially grateful to the art teachers of the community who take their valuable classroom time to talk about heart-healthy habits with their students."

Now in its 5th year, the “Have a HeART for Art” program has become a permanent educational component of the Garland County Chapter of the American Heart Association. This year's co-chairs are Nancy Bartlett and Kimberly Hall. The 2013 Heart Ball Gala will be held March 2, 2013 at the Hot Springs Convention Center
