Registration Clerk Ken Kanazawa from Hanamaki City, Japan, Hot Springs’ sister city, will meet with representatives of local and state government and tour their facilities next week as part of a city staff exchange sponsored by Hanamaki. During his visit, he will join local officials in celebrating Hot Springs’ recent selection as Best Overall Program by Sister Cities International. Hot Springs’ program is a public/private partnership involving the City of Hot Springs, Visit Hot Springs and the Hot Springs National Park Sister City Foundation.
Kanazawa’s visit is the first official event of the 20th anniversary year of the Sister City signing agreement between Hot Springs and Hanamaki. In June, two area public school teachers will travel to Hanamaki on scholarships provided by the Sister City Foundation. A delegation comprised of outstanding students chosen as leaders from their respective Garland County schools will travel to Hanamaki in July, followed by a local citizen delegation that will visit Hanamaki in September during the centuries-old Hanamaki Festival.
The year’s activities will continue with two visiting Hanamaki delegations in November to participate in a slate of activities for the 20th anniversary celebration, followed by two Hanamaki student delegations in late November and early December.
