Beginning at 9 a.m. today, June 25, the first 100 people bringing
recyclable glass to the 24-hour Recycling Drop-off Center will receive a free
green “Got Glass?” T-shirt (photo attached) during the Sanitation Department’s
official Glass Recycling Kickoff. Refreshments will also be offered.
The drop-off
center, located at the corner of Valley and Runyon, accepts other items such as
newsprint, plastics #1 and #2, corrugated cardboard, aluminum cans and phone
books.
Recent
improvements to the center include larger recycling containers,
environmentally-friendly landscaping and a new asphalt surface. The perimeter
landscaping includes bioswells and rain gardens that absorb rain, reduce the
need for watering and filter the stormwater runoff before it reaches the
adjacent Hot Springs Creek.
Public response
has been strong since glass recycling was recently reinstated at the drop-off
center. Most types of glass are recyclable, except plate glass like window panes
or mirrors. The public is asked to rinse containers and remove lids. For more
information or to begin recycling, call 321-6911.
