AHTD
officials re-opened the Young Road
overpass on Interstate 40 in North
Little Rock on Saturday. However, continued repairs
will require lane closures on the overpass, according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation
Department (AHTD) officials.
AHTD personnel
have stabilized the bridge. This will allow motorists to safely cross the
bridge while crews make permanent repairs. During this process, one lane on the bridge
will be closed. Beginning at 8:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 12th, traffic will be
controlled by a temporary alternating traffic signal that will regulate the
crossing of the bridge using one lane in both directions, until work is
complete. The overpass was constructed
in 1963 and carries approximately 750 vehicles each day.
All
travel lanes are open through the affected area on Interstate 40. However, a
barrier wall has been installed along the shoulder of the westbound lane in the
vicinity of the bridge.
Motorists
should exercise caution when approaching and traveling through all highway work
zones.
