Following last week's manhunt for a suspect wanted for several warrants and
suspected in certain recent crimes, Hot Springs residents have contacted the
City of Hot Springs asking how they can register for CodeRED, the city’s free
emergency notification service.
To register,
residents can click on the CodeRED icon at the bottom of the city’s home page,
www.cityhs.net, where it takes just a minute or
two to complete. Those without Internet access can register by phone by calling
the Stormwater Division at 321-6773 or 321-6778. These same numbers can be
called to request placement on CodeRED’s “Do Not Call”
list.
Since May 2008, the City of Hot
Springs has subscribed to the Code Red Emergency Calling System. This system
allows mass communication with city residents with the push of a few buttons.
Recorded messages such as flood alerts, tornado warnings, missing children,
escaped prisoners, boil alerts, and any other important information can be
quickly issued to home phones, cell phones, text and email. The calling area
for a message can be targeted in scope from the entire city down to just one
side of a street or to a single household, if needed.
Although the
CodeRED contact information is derived from Municipal Utilities account data,
some of the data is outdated because people often relocate or change phone
numbers. Additionally, in order to receive weather alerts, a user must “opt in”
to the service. Because of these factors, the public is encouraged to register
or update their registration so that their contact information is correct. When
registering, residents will be able to choose whether to receive alerts by cell
phone, email, text, home phone or multiple sources. They can opt in or out of
general notifications like Sanitation service delay announcements, and also opt
in or out of the type of weather alert they’ll receive: severe weather,
tornados, winter storms and flash floods.
For more
information on CodeRED, call 321-6773.
