U.S. Senators Mark Pryor and John Boozman said President Barack Obama has nominated Kristine Baker to be U.S. District Judge for the Eastern District of Arkansas.
“Kris has all the right tools to be a great judge, and I look forward to introducing her to my Senate colleagues. I think they will agree that her credentials, judicial temperament and commitment to a just legal system will help her serve the Eastern District of Arkansas with distinction,” Pryor said.
“I had an excellent visit with Ms. Baker over the summer and I was very impressed with her credentials, legal knowledge and reputation. She has a true commitment to the law as well as to the people of Arkansas. For these reasons, I believe she will be a good fit for the vacancy and will be working with Senator Pryor to ensure her nomination receives swift consideration,” Boozman said.
As a partner at Quattlebaum, Grooms, Tull & Burrow PLLC, Baker’s practice focuses on business-related litigation. She has been recognized as one of Chambers and Partners' America's Leading Lawyers for Business; named a Rising Star by Mid-South Super Lawyers; and listed with The Best Lawyers in America, the Martindale-Hubbell Bar Register of Preeminent Women Lawyers and Arkansas Business’ Forty Under 40.
Throughout her legal career, Baker has done extensive pro bono work, representing clients in a variety of cases through the Pulaski County Bar Association’s Volunteer Organization Center for Arkansas Legal Services (“VOCALS”) and helping elderly and sick prisoners receive proper medical care.
Upon graduation from the University of Arkansas School Of Law, Ms. Baker served as a law clerk to the Honorable Susan Webber Wright, United States District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas.
The vacancy in the position of U.S. District Judge for the Eastern District is a result of the Honorable James M. Moody assuming senior status. Once nominated by the President, candidates for a federal judgeship must testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee and be confirmed by the Senate.
