E-blast system not used for its purpose

Dawna Jeanne Natzke went missing December 21. There have been no e-blasts from the POA alerting Village residents to be on the lookout for Natzke. Garland County has not sent out e-mail alerts because the Village has the capability to use its own system.

The Voice has been ineffectual because this week's edition had already gone to print by the time Natzke was reported missing. KVRE has covered the missing person case since Monday, December 26. The radio station contacted the Hot Springs Village Police Department asking for information since no one at the station had been alerted by the police of a missing person.

Still, through yesterday, December 29, there has been no e-blast from the POA. Natzke is a POA employee, a Village resident, and was attending a party at a Village POA employee's home just before she disappeared. The system appears to be broken and should be addressed immediately.

See January 12 post regarding Natzke update. E-blast designed for newsletter not emergency delivery. Village now has an emergency system to alert Villagers as of this week.

  3. OK, do I have this right?
    - A mother of three is missing under mysterious circumstances
    - Is thought highly of in the community where she both lived and worked
    - Actually worked at the Hot Springs Village "Police" station and was considered a conscentious employee
    - The boyfriend who last saw her has changed his story three times
    - The most effective method (e-mail notifications) to alert the community of her disappearance was not used
AND you are worried about a mispelling?????

  4. Thank you Diane and Anonymous 9:05AM for the first voices of reason I've read!

We are floored by what has occurred and doubly mortified by the rationalizations, defensiveness, excuses and spin now being applied. Folks need to stay focused on the critical mission of finding Dawna and solving any crimes that have been committed. Beyond that, there is are hefty servings of crow soup to go around for the eating..

I personally looked for an eBlast and tried for DAYS to learn how to help, went innumerable times to the Village Voice website seeking -- uh silly me, NEWS of all things -- and found nothing other than a four sentence blip directing me to the PD for questions (as if that is the best use of the PD's time!) And nothing in the print edition? Really? Nothing at all? What a blackout! Finally yesterday morning, a real "news" article appeared on the HSVV site, based lock, stock and barrel on the press conference from the previous day. And even that, I assume was driven in no small measure by KARK's coverage the previous day. But it was something! We've reluctantly and belatedly entered the spotlight and wow, we don't look too pretty after all that hiding in the closet!

The good news is that thanks to alternative media, such as this blog, online crime solving sites, national and now international media, much needed information and myriad means to assist are seeping out.

Our prayers are with Dawna, her family and friends. We know this is all consuming for them and her many fine colleagues at the police station. We appreciate all that is being done and --now the gag order has apparently been lifted -- we will be in Jessieville tomorrow to help search, as we have been eager to do all week and would have done Christmas day!

Thanks Diane and all who make this space possible. Blessings.

  5. As a transplant I am reluctant to criticize. As a SAR member from Colorado I would have to say the lack of communication is disturbing. The need for a means to get vital accurate information out to a community is essential,,, the fact that our technology now allows this to easily happen makes it inexcusable. And this sad incident brings to light the impotent system currently in use.

Also I have been trying to get information in order to volunteer for a search being staged at Jessieville school, 8 am sat morning. Is this a second search being held by the same team doing the original search? If not will there be access to the hard copies of the first grid search mapping so as to not do redundancy patterning. I would very much like to assist in a serious search endeavor. Anyone knowing how I might contact the search team leader please leave word at roblaluna@gmail.com
