Blood drive

Arkansas Blood Institute (ABI), the Campbell Group, the Boy Scouts and CASA are partnering for a blood drive Thursday, November 8 to help save the lives of those in area hospitals. The drive will occur from noon to 6 p.m. on an ABI bloodmobile at the Northside Shopping Center by Edward D. Jones, 501C Highway 71 North.

One blood donation can save as many as three lives. Yet, it typically takes only an hour to give blood.  This brief act of community service can make a major, life-saving difference.

People 16 years and older* are usually able to give. During November, each blood donor receives a free blood donor T-shirt, health screenings and Donor Rewards Points, redeemable at ABI’s online store.

If donors prefer, they can forgo the T-shirts to support the Global Blood Fund. Arkansas Blood Institute will redirect funds for the shirts to this charity assisting blood centers in developing countries.

Arkansas Blood Institute is a non-profit regional blood center that provides every drop of blood needed for patients in 14 hospitals serving the River Valley including those in Clark, Crawford, Franklin, Garland, Hot Spring, Johnson, Logan, Montgomery, Pike, Polk, Scott, Sebastian and Yell counties.

Appointments are not required but can be made by calling Phillip Speer at 479-394-3936 or visiting arkbi.org.

* 16 year olds must weigh at least 125 and provide signed parental permission, 17 year olds must weigh at least 125 pounds, 18+ year olds must weigh at least 110 pounds.
