Garland County high school students between the ages of 13 and 19 by May 1, are invited to participate in Sister Cities International’s 25th Annual Young Artist Showcase. Students from Hanamaki, Japan, Hot Springs’ sister city, will also participate in the art competition, co-sponsored by the Hot Springs National Park Sister City Foundation and the Fine Arts Center of Hot Springs.
Using the theme “The Power of Exchange,” young artists can submit original artwork to the Fine Arts Center, 626 Central Avenue, by no later than Tuesday, March 26. Entry forms and competition guidelines can be found online at www.sister-cities.org/young-artists-and-authors-showcase or by emailing JRMartell@sistercities.org . Entries must be matted with the individual application taped on the back of each entry. The Fine Arts Center is open from 10:30 a.m. until 5 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday.
There is no entry fee for the local contest. All entries will be displayed at the Fine Arts Center throughout the month of April. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place. First place winning entries from Hanamaki and Hot Springs will be sent to Sister Cities International for national competition, with entry fees paid by the Sister City Foundation. If selected as a national finalist, the artwork will be displayed at SCI’s Annual Conference in San Antonio, TX and then go on tour selected Sister City locations for one year.
