National Park Community College Style Show to benefit scholarship fund

Fun, food, and fashions will be featured at the Style Show for Scholarships benefiting the Garland County Single Parent Scholarship Fund. The style show will feature fashions from the Lagniappe Shoppe, special music by Michele Webb, catered lunch, and a silent auction. The style show will be presented on Friday, February 8, noon, at Forest Lakes Clubhouse. Style show tickets are $20.

Marcia Dobbs-Smith, owner of the Lagniappe Shoppe, opened her store in 1989. Smith was previously a buyer for department stores in Louisiana and Texas. Smith said she became involved with the Garland County Single Parent Scholarship Fund (GCSPSF) because one of her employees was a scholarship recipient. Smith said the employee went on to earn a degree in speech pathology. This is the fourth year for the Lagniappe Shoppe to host the Style Show for Scholarships.

Michele Crafton Webb started her music career at age eight performing on stage as a pageant contestant. Webb competed in the Miss Arkansas Pageant system for several years earning the title of Miss Greater Little Rock. She was also a preliminary talent winner and Top Ten finalist. Webb is married to Dr. John Webb and has three daughters. Webb is an active member of First Baptist Church where she sings in the ladies ensemble, “Refuge.”

Financial sponsors and silent auction donors for the Style Show for Scholarships include the Boggs Endowment Fund, TDC Jewelry, Skin Solutions, La Bellisima, The Sentinel-Record,  Ron Coleman Mining, Weyerhaeuser, Virginia Clinton Kelley Democratic Women of Garland County, Best Buy, Ike Eisenhauer Insurance Agent with State Farm Insurance, and the GCSPSF Committee members.

The GCSPSF scholarships encourage students’ success by providing financial assistance that can be used for transportation, child care, medical expenses, school supplies, books and fees, and housing. The GCSPSF goal is to empower single parents to become financially self-sufficient through higher education. The GCSPSF provides scholarships to men and women of Garland County who demonstrate financial need, are single parents, and are enrolled in a post-secondary educational course of study leading to a degree, diploma, or certificate of graduation.
