Trash Bash this Saturday

TRASH BASH 2011 will be on Saturday, September 17, and it is one of Arkansas’ biggest one day litter clean up events. This fun day out for the whole family has become one of our community’s traditions. It has it all - a little light exercise with friends and family, the feeling of doing good for our community and environment, a great free all-American Smokin in Style BBQ, Hot Dogs, coleslaw, beans and chips, free Great Arkansas Clean-up t-shirts, lots of prizes including a Google flat screen HD TV and a grand prize of a laptop computer! If that is not enough fun for a family’s day outing, TRASH BASH’s free lunch is at the beautiful Garvan Woodland Gardens amphitheater site to combine food, fun and music. I know that this sounds like one of those TV ads, but it is true … Wait, there is more! All the litter volunteers also get free admission to view the award winning Garvan Woodland Gardens!

Individuals and teams just register on the day at these check stations from 8 am - 11 am on Lake Catherine at Lake Catherine State Park, Carpenter Dam Park, Remmel Dam Park and the Munro Shoe company Boat Dock. On Lake Hamilton, the check stations are at Sunny Brook landing, Hill Wheatley Park, Power Boats on Central Ave., Hulsey Fish Hatchery, and on the Ouachita River at Whitewater Park in Malvern.

These check stations will register you for all the free stuff and make sure you get your tickets for the prize drawings. All registered volunteers will receive a ticket for every bag of trash they turn in. They can also pick up their free bags and gloves to help get that trash out of our lakes and roads.

Not up to trash pick up, but want to help out? This year there will be an opportunity to go out with pick up teams to record what is being picked up. This important information will be added to national and international reports that are eventually being given to the United Nations! Please register for this project at (501) 655 2161 for your free, brief training session.

So, there it is, a morning of light exercise that will do great good followed by free fun, food, and prizes. The volunteer team of TRASH BASH 2011 will be looking for you; your friends and family at those check stations on September 17.
