Joan L. Lyngen, 93, of De Kalb, Ill. passed away Saturday, April 24, at Pine Acres Care Center in De Kalb. She was born June 5, 1910, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Patrick J. and Catherine J. (Farrell) Kenny.
Joan was born and lived most of her early adult life in Chicago, Ill. She was employed and retired from Carson Pirie Scott & Company in 1974 after 25 plus years of service. Joan held various positions with Carson’s serving as a merchandise buyer for a number of years prior to retirement.
Joan and her husband Clare Lyn retired to Hot Springs Village, Ark. where they lived together until her husband’s death in 1985. Joan was an avid golfer and responsible for starting the first women’s golf league in the Village called the "Duffers." That club is still in existence today. Joan remained until 1991 in Arkansas until she came to De Kalb to live close to her adopted family. Joan lived independently until October of 2002, when she made her new and final home at Pine Acres. She enjoyed many things in life but none so much as the Chicago Cubs and Hersey’s Chocolate. Both are believed to have been instrumental in her relatively good health and longevity.
Joan was both blessed and is survived by her adoptive family that welcomed her into their lives over 50 yeas ago, Marie and Larry Rossdeutcher, Christine (Michael) Greenaway, Theresa Faivre, Karen (Charlie) Sharp, Donna (Stan) Allen and David (Katie) Rossdeutcher and their families; her dear and devoted friend for a number of years, Carolyn (Barry) Haber; her caretaker and special niece Donna Allen; and the many new members of her family at Pine Acres, but especially her adopted granddaughter and nurse, Nicole Schramer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clare of 40 years; Dona Delaney, a close friend; and her two favorite four legged pals, Butch and Max.
Burial was by Cremation. The Anderson Funeral Home, Ltd., was in charge of arrangements.
A private family celebration of her life will be held at a later date. For further information, please call (815) 756-1022.
