Since so few people were at the Heifer Club meeting on April 26 after the big storm, Jane Parker is passing on information about the votes that day.
The previous year's officers agreed to serve again and were officially re-elected. Jane Parker, president, Joyce Gallagher, treasurer and Carol Gardener, secretary. Dave Nottrott has also agreed to serve again as the Living Gift Market chairman for November 12. Nottrott got a big cheer!
The members also approved two important expenditures: $500.00 for Heifer Ranch Volunteer needs and $500.00 to purchase a Heifer to honor the memory of Duane Miller who served this club as president, treasurer, and designed and made the large Heifer heads, and all the little wooden animal ornaments that are sold at the Living Gift Market.
The Parkers took five Dirt Devil upright vacuum cleaner complete with attached furniture cleaning equipment to the Heifer Ranch. They also took five cast iron skillets, six can openers, six sets of paring knives, six sets of other kitchen items, and some things which several volunteers brought. Two nice knife sets, coffee mugs, assorted cooking utensils.
The Parkers brought one of everything into the dining room during lunch and the volunteers clapped and oooded and aaahhhed when I told them these were gifts for the Volunteer cottages from the HSV Heifer Club. The Heifer Club earned the money at the Living Gift Market last November and wanted to give the volunteers some tangible items to thank them for their work at Heifer Ranch. The volunteers cheered loudly when Parker told them we made $40,000.00 at the Living Gift Market. Many made a special effort to come up to Parker to express their appreciation for your gifts to them. They were really appreciative.
Diane Gunvalson, the Volunteer Director will see that the items are equitably distributed. She will be our speaker at the next Heifer Club meeting on June 22, at the Kirk.
Conditions at the Ranch were much like here, lots of tree trunks and branches, some roofs badly damaged. They had already accomplished lots of cutting down and clean up. Also like Villagers, they were grateful no one was killed, only two chickens had died, but all the other animals were OK. Thanks be to God for our safety and theirs.
