Advice for Lake Hamilton boat owners could go for any lake in the area

According to the Garland County Sheriff's Office, during the past several weeks Lake Hamilton has been experiencing some thefts of property from boats that are occurring during the late night hours. These individuals are stealing batteries, electronics, and anything of value that may be left in the boat. The Sheriff's Office is working diligently to apprehend those responsible for these thefts. It is strongly recommend each boat owner take special precautions to secure their property.

At a minimum, boat owners should remove any items of value that can be easily removed from their boat. Lock your boat and personal watercraft's to their docks with a strong cable or chain. Additionally, each boat owner should "personalize" their batteries by placing some method of identification on their batteries.

The Sheriff's Office further recommends all the dock owners ensure they have adequate lighting on their docks making a thief easily seen. Motion sensor floodlights provide a very effective means of lighting docks while saving energy. The Garland County Sheriff's Office hopes that every boat and dock owner on Lake Hamilton takes these precautions.
