Dave Johnston, General Manager for the Hot Springs Village Property Owners’ Association, announced he is resigning, effective immediately, to pursue other personal and professional interests.
“I have enjoyed working with the members of the POA Staff, and the people of the Village, over my 15 years of service to the community,” Johnston said.
Johnston has managed the Village through a period of steady growth and the addition of many new amenities, benefiting all property owners. His management has provided excellent service to all new and prospective property owners, and he has worked effectively with annually changing sets of Board members. The POA Board of Directors, headed by President Bill Linam, has regrettably accepted his resignation.
The Board will immediately engage a professional recruitment firm to initiate the search for Johnston’s replacement. In the interim, the Village needs hands-on leadership during the several months it will take to find and engage a suitable replacement for Johnston. The Board has asked Board Director Jerry Kosoglow to accept this interim assignment, on a voluntary basis. Kosoglow has 30 years of management experience prior to his retirement and has been very deeply involved in Village matters over the last couple of years.
Hot Springs Village has a number of critical issues that will need to be addressed in the months and years ahead. The financial viability of the Village is paramount in light of the recent pressure brought on by the downturn in the national economy. Efforts to replace Wayne Copeland, retiring CFO, will continue to be emphasized.
Other projects where strong oversight will be necessary include funding and installation of increased fresh water capacity, improved wastewater systems to comply with new ADEQ requirements, and addressing the needs for a comprehensive POA software package.
The Board is fully committed to a process that emphasizes fiscal responsibility in future budgeting and spending. The newly hired General Manager will be charged with evaluating ways to improve effectiveness, increase efficiencies, and lower costs in the current POA structure, while addressing all other specific goals and objectives outlined in the soon to be completed Strategic Plan.
Affordably maintaining the vital infrastructure of the Village combined with a strong commitment to promote and advertise the community to potential new residents will serve to protect property values and ensure vitality and growth in the years ahead.
