Special assessment vote counted for Guadalajara Courts

A special meeting of the Village townhouse association board of directors was held last Friday, October 8 at 9:00 a.m. in the THA community center. Board members present included Brent Gray, Ida Ferree, Henry Frank, and Bill Turner. Board members Robert Baldwin, Jim Bigg, Larry Siler, Doug Butler, and Robert Jordan were unable to attend.
Gray called the meeting to order at 9:10 a.m. for the purpose of counting the ballots regarding Guadalajara Courts’ special assessment regarding the replacement of the Guadalajara bridge that is a safety hazard, noting there was not a quorum. Gray turned the meeting over to the nominations and elections committee.
Dot Ashley, chairman for the committee, instructed the members and the board of directors on the procedures to follow to open, verify, and count the ballots. Ashely requested Fred Benson, an owner in Guadalajara Courts; inspect the box to insure the box was not tampered with. Benson inspected the box and confirmed the box was not tampered with.
The meeting was recessed for the purpose of counting the ballots at 9:15 a.m.
Gray reconvened the meeting about 9:50 a.m. noting again that a quorum was not present. Gray asked Ashley to announce the results of the ballot count.
Ashley announced 43 ballots were returned, 12 votes, 29% FOR supporting the special assessment and 30 votes, 71% AGAINST the special assessment and 1 ballot was deemed ineligible.
The Board accepted the ballot results as presented by the committee, however, since there was not a quorum present, the ballot results will not be formally approved until the next special board meeting scheduled for October 22.
