POA board meeting

Mark Hunt, Entergy customer relations director, addressed the ongoing repair and replacement of power lines in the Village.

The POA working board meeting was held October 6. Board member Bob Brandt begins each of the board meetings with a helpful quote. The quote of the day was credited to Russian author Leo Tolstory, "everyone thinks of changing humanity but no one thinks of changing themselves."
The customer relations director of Entergy, Mark Hunt, and an associate addressed work ongoing in the Village to correct repeated power failures in the Doscientos, Senduro, Valle and Leon neighborhoods. A July thunderstorm caused major damage to outdated lines. Some of the neighborhoods have suffered frequent power outages since November of last year.
Entergy is busy digging up old cables and putting down new power lines in those neighborhoods. The Entergy officials were hopeful the problems would be fixed within six months if they bring in another underground cable expert. The expert has been requested.
The challenge is to replace the old cables without damaging the landscaping of property owners in the effected areas. Replacing transformers is also time consuming according to the Entergy representatives.
Acting interim POA general manager Jerry Kosoglow requested Entergy provide the POA with a schedule of work that can be posted on the POA website. No information is on the site at this time.
Director Steve White reported the urban deer hunt results were about the same as last year. There were two more deer killed last year. He also reported this year there were more donations of deer meat to charity. About 80 hunters participated in the bow hunt.
Kosoglow presented a power point presentation of the 2011 Budget, it is available online on the POA website, www.hsvpoa.org.
Kosoglow said that work and discussion will continue until the budget is approved at the November 17 POA board meeting.
Kosoglow also presented a plan to recall the wastewater bonds that were issued last year to provide financing for improvements at Hot Springs Village’s wastewater treatment plants mandated by new permit requirements issued by the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality. Chemical additions at the plants are producing the mandated levels so additional funding is not needed at this time.
In a special meeting following the work session, the Board voted unanimously to recall the bonds.
John Cooney of the strategic planning committee led staff in exercises to identify a POA staff mission statement. Assistant to the general manger Linda Mayhood presented the new POA staff mission statement. " To provide quality services to all members, guests and visitors. Develop strategies and plans to achieve our objectives. Accomplish our work through effective processes and a motivated workforce.
Enhance the quality of life for all and to ensure the continued growth of Hot Springs Village."
Kosoglow also presented the 2011 Board calendar which will be voted on at the next meeting of the POA Board.
The next meeting of the POA board is scheduled for October 20 at 9 a.m. in the Ouachita room of the Ponce de Leon Center.
