Sheriff Larry Sanders encourages all residents to use a free online system that
will help keep track of valuable, and invaluable, personal property.
ReportIt is a free, secure online service allowing citizens to record
serial numbers and upload images for phones, electronics, and other valuables.
Should those items ever be stolen, Sheriff Sanders says “having the information
will go a long way in accurately and quickly identifying your property”.
“This free service will allow you to enter pertinent information about
items or articles that are valuable to you, including serial numbers, owner
applied numbers, brand, model, when and where the item was purchased as well as
let you upload images of the item. This information is absolutely crucial when
trying to identify and recover stolen property”, says Sheriff Sanders.
The ReportIt service is a part of LeadsOnline, the online system that
works with police across the country to track and recover stolen property. The
Garland County Sheriff’s Department has used LeadsOnline to help track and
recover stolen property for years and has had many successes using the system.
In the last week, the LeadsOnline system helped recover over $30,000.00 worth of
stolen jewelry. Utilizing ReportIt to maintain a database of your valuables, we
should see the successes increase dramatically.
Citizens can store an
unlimited number of serial numbers, item descriptions, pictures, and scans of
receipts so items may be more easily identified in the event of a theft. This
record may also come in handy when filing claims with insurance providers in the
event of loss.
