The Arkansas, AACTFest 2011 was held on February 5 and 6 at the South Arkansas Arts Center in El Dorado. Several Village Players attended the event.
This was the second adjudicated competition in the last three years, with the first event hosted by the Rialto Community Arts Center in Morrilton in 2009.
Congratulations go to the four theater groups for representing their organization and their community:
Ouachita Little Theatre of Mena for Kitchen Dance, written by Ronald Robinson and directed by Janelle Baldwin. Becky Norris received Outstanding Performance and the production was recognized for Outstanding Set.
South Arkansas Arts Center of El Dorado for Same Time, Next Year by Bernard Slade and directed by Marsha Antoon & Cindy Mabry. The production was recognized for Outstanding Sound.
Little Theatre of Crittenden County of West Memphis for Graceland by Ellen Byron and directed by Ed Bell. Holly Hearn received Outstanding Performance and the production was recognized for Outstanding Costumes/Make-Up/Hair Design.
Conway Community Arts Association of Conway for Tuesdays with Morrie by Jeffrey Hatcher and Mitch Albom and directed by Carla Grant. Len Schlientz received Outstanding Performance and Carla Grant was recognized for Outstanding Direction.
The two theater groups advancing to regional competition on April 14 through 17 in Lewisville, Texas, are Conway Community Arts Association and South Arkansas Arts Center. Arkansans community theater connoisseurs are excited about the two organizations representing Arkansas at this event and wish them to "Break a Leg!!" The Antoons designed my wedding ring when we lived in El Dorado! (They designed a few other pieces I owned as well, but those are no longer in the land of the living.) Great family.
