A number of months ago the Animal Welfare League board was, once again, asked by POA administration to assume the responsibility for running the shelter and providing primary funding. The AWL board has been informed that, if AWL does not agree to take over shelter operations, they will present a proposal to the POA board of directors to close the shelter and send all animals picked up or surrendered to animal control to the Hot Springs animal facility for disposition. The POA would pay a fee to Hot Springs for each surrendered animal.
Jerry Jamrich, Jock MacMorran, Angela Nickols and occasionally other board members have had many meetings with POA staff to determine the additional duties and costs we would be agreeing to assume should the POA Directors decide to outsource all sheltering functions.
The AWL has reserved the Ouachita Room at the Ponce De Leon Center for a public meeting on Monday, March 14, at 10 a.m. Jock MacMorran is preparing a power point presentation detailing the proposal that has been made to AWL. POA directors, board candidates and administration have been invited to attend as well.
All AWL members and supporters are encouraged to come to the meeting to hear the proposal. Show the Village and the POA that our efforts over the years have made the Village an outstanding example of a community that cares and acts in the best interests of all animals and pet owners in need. Make this meeting standing room only! AWL tee shirts are the perfect attire. A sell out crowd at Puttin on the Dog...& Cat on April 12th is a perfect way to show your support too. Tickets are available now at Company's Comin' and Hallmark Dogwood Tree. We will have volunteers selling tickets at the shelter Mon-Fri the weeks of Mar. 14 thru 18 and Mar. 28 thru April 1. Shelter sales hours on these dates are noon to 2 p.m.
