The Hot Springs Village board of directors met for a work session on Feb. 2.
The four candidates running for the POA board were recognized from the audience: Tom Bryant, John Cooney, Larry Frazer and Jack Slattery.
Board vice president Mike Misch reminded everyone about the Legislative Forum on Feb. 11, at 3:00 p.m. at the Ponce de Leon Center.
General manager Scott Randall thanked everyone for a gracious welcome and noted that this was David Whitlow’s last meeting as he is retiring on Friday.Chair of the public works committee Bill Munson thanked David for his many years of service and wanted him to know that everyone would miss him terribly.
Keith Keck, a coordinator for the Village strategic plan reminded the Board it needed to create a plan of action with timelines to make sure the plan is implemented timely.
Linda Mayhood, assistant to the general manager, brought to the Board two policy revisions. The first deletes the wording for curbside recycling as it is no longer offered. The second revision would change the golf policy to reflect the new golf fee for military personnel through 2012 fee and the verbiage that internet tee time system registration might be required to pay a fee, although no fee is charged at this time. These policy changes will be brought to the February 16, 2011 meeting for a vote.
Accounting Manager Doris Truett joined Mayhood and explained an amendment to the bylaws that is proposed to allow the POA to count election ballots in-house rather than hiring an outside vendor to process. Procedures for ballot counting were also presented.
Suggestions for changes to the procedures were made by Board Director Jim Owens and will be worked into the final procedures.
After lengthy discussion by the Board and members of the audience, the staff will begin soliciting members for an ad-hoc Election Day Committee now, but the Board will not vote on the proposal until the Feb. 16 meeting.
The next meeting of the Board will be held Fe. 16 at 9:00 a.m. at the Ouachita room at the Ponce de Leon Center.
