Starting the new year hanging on for dear life
Happy New Year. I see the Senate doesn't want us to fall completely off the cliff. It's up to the House of Representatives later today to complete the deal. Personally, I don't hold out too much hope for those idiots. I also see payroll taxes are going up, so as of today my little paycheck got even smaller.

Scam seminar in Village
Have you or someone you know been a victim of fraud or a
scam? If so, make plans to attend the upcoming public service meeting on the identification

Fitness Center open house January 8
The Coronado Fitness Center will host an Open House Jan. 8, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Property owners may use the facility and even register to take a class for free. Hot Springs soliciting applications for boards and commissions
The City of Hot Springs is now accepting board and commission applications for the following volunteer advisory positions until 5 p.m. on Friday, January 11. Applicants must be registered voters of the City of Hot Springs. Board and commission members are appointed by the Board of Directors and meet in the City Hall Board Chambers, 133 Convention Boulevard.
Two openings for city residents on the Airport Advisory Committee. This committee assists the Airport Manager and City Manager in the development and review of airport operating policies and procedures. Meetings are held on the third Thursday of the month at 4 p.m.
One opening on the Historic District Commission which oversees historic district rules and regulations. One opening may, but is not required to be, an owner of real property within the Pleasant Street Historic District. Meetings are held on the third Thursday of the month at 8:30 a.m.
One opening for residents of Board District #2 to serve on the Community Development Advisory Committee. The committee evaluates and establishes operating policies and procedures for CDBG Entitlement Program. Meetings are held the first Thursday of the month, 1 p.m.
Six openings for city residents on the Arts Advisory Committee, whose responsibilities are to review and recommend placement of permanent art at publicly-owned facilities in the city; to assist in the organization and promotion of temporary art exhibits at publicly-owned facilities; and to assist in the securing of private grant funding and art donations for permanent art displays at public buildings in the city. Meetings are held in the Board Chambers, City Hall, on an as-needed basis.
Two openings for city residents on the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee. This committee provides guidance and oversight in the City’s parks and recreation programming, planning and policy development. Meetings are held the third Thursday of the month at 5 p.m.
One opening for a city resident on the Towing Service Advisory Committee. This committee assists in the administration of the towing ordinance, as well as the hearing of complaints or revocations, and to consider ordinance revisions. This committee meets as needed.
Eight openings on the Construction Trades Advisory Committee. The committee consists of nine members who review and recommend changes, revisions and modifications to the Hot Springs mechanical, building, electrical and plumbing codes for consideration by the Board of Directors. The requirements are as follows:
Position 1 - Carpenter or building contractor
Position 3 - Master or journeyman plumber
Position 4 - Master or journeyman plumber
Position 5 - Mechanical engineer, sheet metal worker, or class "a" or "b" mechanical contractor
Position 6 - Mechanical engineer, sheet metal worker, or class "a" or "b" mechanical contractor
Position 7 - Master or journeyman electrician
Position 8 - Master or journeyman electrician
Position 9 - Citizen at-large not meeting any of the qualifications for positions one through eight

Special meeting scheduled
A special called meeting of the Hot Springs board of directors will be held at
noon on Wednesday, January 2 in the City Hall Board Chambers, 133 Convention
Boulevard. The meeting is to consider the status and recommendations concerning
Case No. 6:12-CV-6008 (Jackson v City of Hot Springs, et al).
Hamilton elected to Association of Concert Bands board
Members of the Hot Springs Concert Band are excited to share Craig Hamilton has been elected to the board of
directors for the Association of Concert Bands. There were seven candidates for
the board and congratulations to Craig on his successful nomination and
election.
The Association of Concert Bands (ACB), (formerly the Associaiton of Concert Bands of America, was founded in August 1977 and it's international membership includes bands, individuals and corporations who are uniquely dedicated and equipped to serve the needs of adult instrumental musicians who perform in and lead community bands.

The Hot Springs Concert Band organization has been a proud member of the ACB for many years. Harvey McIntyre is also a former member of the ACB Board of Directors. Having Craig on the board ensures that we will be well represented within the organization and it's our pleasure to share Craig's gifts and experience with the ACB.
The ACB holds an annual convention of its membershp. Why not consider joining the ACB as an individual member?

Meeting cancelled
The Hot Springs community development advisory committee meeting scheduled for Thursday,
January 3 in the City Hall board chambers has been cancelled due to a scheduling
conflict. The next regularly-scheduled meeting will be held on February 7. For
